ALPENA, Mich. — Alpena Public Schools is kicking off the One District One Book program for reading month.
This year, elementary school students are reading the book, Friendship According to Humphrey. Every student and staff member in the district will receive a copy of the book. Special Projects Manager for the district, Jennifer Marceau, says they chose the book for its ability to connect with the students.
“Many of the characters in the story are very relatable to children attending elementary school. What Humphrey is struggling with in this story is friendship, and that is something that children deal with every single day.”
School activities will directly correspond with daily readings the children will do at home with their families. Students will also have a chance to get excited about literacy with this Friday’s series of reading kick off assemblies.
