Hubbard Lake fishing tournament draws record numbers
A record number of 172 contestants registered for this year’s Walleye and Perch Ice Fishing Tournament.
“It’s the largest turnout we’ve ever had,” said Leonard Barraco, owner of Side Door Bait and Tackle. “We’ve been doing this for quite a few years.”
Fishermen and women ice-fished from dusk to dawn on Saturday across Hubbard lake in Alcona County. But only two winners would take home the day’s grand prize.
Todd Wortley caught a 22 inch walleye, while Bruce Shaffer got hold of a 15 inch perch. Both anglers took home $860 each for capturing the largest walleye and perch fish.
