ACC Men’s and Women’s basketball drop home openers to Glen Oaks

ALPENA, Mich. — Coming into Saturday, both the Men’s and Women’s Alpena Community College basketball teams wanted to make a statement in their home-openers. However, home-court advantage wasn’t a major factor as both the Men’s and Women’s basketball teams from Glen Oaks came away with road wins.

The Women’s team lost by a score of 65-61. For the majority of the game, it looked like the Vikings were going to pull away and win by double-digits. However, that wasn’t the case as ACC stormed out in the fourth quarter and at one point were leading 58-57 with over five minutes left to go. Down the stretch, Glen Oaks was able to make some big buckets and clutch free throws to put the nail in the coffin.

Dakota Prevo led the Lumberjacks in scoring with 14 points; Brooke Nguyen added 12 points and Brooke Jones finished with eight points.

Meanwhile, the Men’s team didn’t have an answer for Glen Oaks as they lost 86-64. The Lumberjacks were trailing the majority of the game and couldn’t get into a rhythm. Former Alpena High School Wildcat Chris DeRocher finished with 16 points.

Both teams return to action on Monday as they’re on the road to take on Bay College.
