Hot temperatures in the forecast through the Fourth of July

High temperatures today reached the upper 80s throughout most of Michigan. Temperatures got up to 88 degrees in Alpena, 87 degrees in Saginaw, 89 degrees in Sault Ste. Marie and 90 degrees in Houghton. Temperatures will likely be a few degrees hotter Thursday afternoon.

Thursday will be mostly sunny and very hot. Afternoon highs will heat up to about 91 degrees in Alpena, 93 degrees in Mio and 87 in Harrisville.

Temperatures throughout most of Northeast Michigan will soar above 90 degrees tomorrow. To stay safe from the heat, seek indoor places with air conditioning and seek shade when outdoors. Also, drink plenty of water — even more than feels necessary. If spending time out in the sun, reapply sunscreen every two hours.

Thursday: Predawn lows will be near 60 degrees. Temperatures will rise to the lower 80s by 10 a.m. Afternoon highs will reach about 91 degrees! Early-evening temperatures will remain very warm, in the upper 80s.

Friday: Partly cloudy, warm and muggy. The day will start with lows in the middle 60s. Late-morning temperatures will rise to the upper 70s. Afternoon highs will be around 88 degrees. Temperatures will still be in the lower to middle 80s during the early-evening.

Saturday (July 4th): Sunny and very warm. Predawn lows will be in the lower 60s. Afternoon highs will warm to the upper 80s or close to 90 degrees. Early-evening temperatures will be in the lower 80s.
