Hot and humid late-week; Risk of storms over the weekend

High temperatures today got up to 81 degrees in Alpena, 80 degrees in Traverse City, 82 degrees in Grand Rapids, while the hot spot was Houghton with a high of 85 degrees. A hotter and more humid is on the way in, beginning Friday.

Viewing conditions of comet NEOWISE (C/2020 F3) will be great this evening and tomorrow evening. Mostly clear skies are expected both Thursday and Friday evening. To see the comet, look toward the northwest, slightly above the horizon, about 1 hour after sunset. Temperatures will be near 68 degrees this evening and in the lower 70s tomorrow evening.

Friday will feel muggy with dew points in the 60s. But dew points will rise to the 70s this weekend, so it will feel grossly humid then. Monday and Tuesday will just have typical summertime mugginess.

Friday: Mostly sunny and hot. Predawn lows will be near 60 degrees. Temperatures will rise to the middle 70s by 10 a.m. Afternoon highs will heat up to 90 degrees. Early-evening temperatures will still be quite warm, in the lower 80s.

Saturday: Sweltering with very high humidity, and a late risk of spotty thunderstorms. Predawn temperatures will be in the lower 60s. By the late-morning hours, temperatures will be close to 80 degrees. Afternoon highs will reach about 92 degrees! Early-evening temperatures will be in the middle 80s.

Sunday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the morning-afternoon hours, and beginning the day very muggy. Predawn lows will be in the lower 70s. Afternoon highs will be bear 88 degrees. Early-evening tempreatures will be in the lower 80s.
