Hinks Elementary students pie their teachers as a reward for achievements in math

Students at Hinks Elementary had an exciting end to their school day, when a handful of students got to pie their teachers.

The event came as reward to students who went above and beyond in their academics, and completed assignments outside of their regular class work.

Hinks Elementary staff member and event organizer, Jennifer Marceau, says the program is a great way to help keep students’ minds focused on the the books.

“Hinks and Lincoln Elementary implemented a new math program, and so one of the motivational pieces we did to get students to do lessons on the program, was to complete and pass so many lessons, and if they completed and passed so many lessons, they were drawn from a bag from their class and they were able to pick a staff member that was willing to get pied in the face.”

Students had three months to complete fifteen additional assignments. Of the thirty-five students who met this goal, eighteen took the opportunity to pie their teachers.

Student Chase Coulon used one word to describe how getting to pie his teacher made him feel.

“Excited.”

Marceau says if you add fun to learning, it’s amazing what happens.
