High Wind Warning through Sunday night

The National Weather Service has upgraded wind alerts across Northern Michigan to High Wind Warnings. Extremely strong gusts near 60 mph from the west are expected. The National Weather Service says damaging winds could snap tree limbs and cause power lines to fall, power outages are also possible.
 
The timing of when the warning is in effect varies by county.

  • For Montmorency, Alcona, Oscoda, Iosco and Ogemaw counties, the High Wind Warning is in effect from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. (This timeframe also includes places west to Traverse City and south to Houghton Lake.) Communities affected include: Atlanta, Lewiston, Harrisville, Lincoln, Glennie, Mio, Luzerne, Oscoda, Tawas, Rose City, West Branch.
  • For Alpena, Presque Isle and Cheboygan counties, the High Wind Warning is in effect from 4 p.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday. Communities affected include: Alpena, Lachine, Ossineke, Presque Isle, Posen, Rogers City, Onaway.
