Hess Sworn in as City Councilwoman, Johnson Becomes Mayor Pro Tem

Alpena Municipal Council has a new Mayor Pro Tem and committee member. Incumbent Cindy Johnson and new member Amber Hess received their official swearing in during Tuesday night’s meeting.

Hess said she plans on working hard for the community to help Alpena continue to grow.

“I love Alpena and I’m honored that I get to serve. I love our community and I love that we can focus on the positive things we have and work on that, and that’s what I plan to do on council.

I’m so excited to be a voice on that and represent the citizens of Alpena,” Hess said.

Hess said she plans on working closely with multiple committees during her four–year term.

“The air and water quality, I’m going to be involved with the Thunder Bay Marine Sanctuary, and just different organizations in the area as council member in that way and to help make things happen,” she continued.

Hess said she’s excited to join forces with the new Mayor Pro Tem, Cindy Johnson.

“I am very excited that Cindy Johnson was appointed Mayor Pro Tem, I supported that. I look forward to working with her and everyone else on council,” she added.

Johnson will be taking over for Shawn Sexton as Mayor Pro Tem. Sexton decided not to run for another term. This is the first time in history that women have held the majority in the Alpena City Council.
