Health department warns against eating contaminated wildlife

ALPENA, Mich. — Yesterday we took a look at how to avoid violations during firearm deer season and today we want to remind you of what wildlife to avoid eating when hunting near marsh in Oscoda Township.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Natural Resources remind hunters not to eat deer contaminated with PFAS.  Hunters should not eat venison from deer taken within five miles of Clark’s Marsh in Oscoda Township.

Spokesperson for the Health Department, Lynn Sutfin, explains the harm from eating this wildlife.

Sutfin said if people have questions or want more information, they can contact the state health department at 800–648–6942 or visit michigan.gov/pfasresponse.
