Hazardous material collection day is October 17
ALPENA, Mich.– The Alpena Resource Reclamation Facility will be accepting hazardous materials on October 17 from 8:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
The facility will be accepting a wide range of materials for proper processing. Properly disposing toxic substances at events like these prevents them from contaminating the environment or community.
There will be fees for drop-off. Alpena county residents and out-of-county residents with permits pay $1.50 per pound. Out-of-county residents without a permit will pay a one-time fee of $25, then $1.50 per pound.
From the press release, materials accepted are:
- Batteries, all types
- All paint, both oil base and latex
- Aerosol cans
- Auto chemicals
- Light bulbs
- All fertilizers
- Pesticides/herbicides (there is no charge for pesticides/herbicides)
- Propane tanks
- Sharps/needles
- Mercury
- Flammables liquids
- Oil/antifreeze
- Caustic base products
- P.C.B. ballast (Such as those inside fluorescent light bulbs)
- Cooking oil
