Harrisville Hosts Final Antique Show

Many of the vendors at today’s show are individuals with a lot of background in the purchase and sale of antiques, making the experience all the more worthwhile for customers scoping out special pieces.

“People who do this professionally. They go from show to show and a lot have booths in antique malls in their hometowns,” says Antique Show chairman Erlene Ranger.

The whole event takes place under a big white tent located on the Harrisville harbor, which makes for a picture perfect day of mingling and perusing antiques.

“Harrisville is a beautiful town. And we have a lot of visitors, and they come especially for the antique show,” vendor Shari St. Charles says.

The show has been running for the past 22 years, and when asked her reason for putting it on each year, the chairman’s answer is simple.

“Some people might think we’re crazy but I think it’s because our love of antiques, and the love of the history that goes with the antiques.”

But this may be the antique show’s last year running. The current board that has put on the show for the past 22 years is retiring, and the Alcona Chamber of Commerce who sponsors the show says without a new board this may be the antique show’s last year.

“It’s very bittersweet. I’m sad about it really. And when we tell our customers, they’re very sad. Because they look forward to coming to this antique show,” adds St. Charles.
