Hard freeze overnight for some; Another round of showers Friday

The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for all of the areas shaded in purple. This includes all of Northeast Michigan, from midnight to 8 a.m. Friday. Temperatures overnight will get cold enough that precautions must be taken to protect any vegetation sensitive to temperatures near or below freezing.

Overnight lows will drop to about 32 degrees in Alpena, 31 degrees in Mio, Michigan and 33 degrees in Oscoda, Michigan. A hard freeze with temperatures below freezing is most likely for areas away from the Lake Huron shoreline. We’ll see mostly cloudy skies and possibly some areas of mist.

An area of low pressure has generated more clouds and showers over Lower Michigan. This low pressure system currently near the Illinois-Indiana border will continue to travel eastward. We’ll get a break of dry weather overnight to early Friday. Another of showers will move in Friday with a cold front coming out of North Dakota.

Future radar shows when the current round of showers will end and the approach of Friday’s showers. The current round of showers will end around 11 p.m. Then the rest of the night is looking dry. Friday will start with dry weather in the morning. The next round of showers will move in from the west, reaching the Alpena area around midday. Showers will then continue into Friday afternoon.

Friday: Chilly temperatures, scattered showers midday and afternoon. Predawn lows will be near 32 degrees. Afternoon highs will get up to only around 49 degrees. Evening temperatures will be mainly in the middle/lower 40s.

Saturday: Partly cloudy, another frosty morning. Early-morning lows will be close to 31 degrees. Afternoon highs will reach about 53 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool to the 40s.

Sunday: Partly cloudy, Mother’s Day will look nice, but cool temperatures remain. Early-morning lows will be around 30 degrees. Afternoon highs will be close to 52 degrees. Evening temperatures will head into the 40s.
