Great Lakes Great Responsibility hosts silent art auction

ALPENA, Mich. – One area group is asking for your help by seeing the environment through art.

Starting June 10 at 8 a.m., Great Lakes Great Responsibility is holding a silent art auction. Artists from around the state have donated art inspired by the Great Lakes to help raise funds for the organization. Meag Schwartz, the founder of Great Lakes Great Responsibility, says having interesting ways to fundraise is important for their mission.

“Oh I think its crucial because we are funded solely by donors,” Schwartz said. “Making it fun, making it Great–Lakes themed and featuring different artists from around the region is a really unique way to raise funds.”

Funds raised will go toward their #GreatLakes1Million challenge– that aims to remove 1 million pieces of litter from the Great Lakes Basin. They will also be given to volunteers in the region who wish to start dumping sites and help clean the environment.

“We want everyone in the Great Lakes Basin to be preventing marine debris and litter in their own neighborhoods,” Schwartz said. “So if someone wants to take on a dump site we want to fund those efforts.”

To view the artwork or to RSVP, you can visit here. The silent auction will be live on the Great Lakes Great Responsibility Facebook page on Thursday, June 10 at 8 a.m.
