Alpena, Mich.- Four soon to be Alpena Community College graduates had one last challenge to complete and it would test them in many different levels.

He’s alive, she’s dead, and others are hurt. These are the types of scenarios a person could find himself or herself in one day. “You didn’t know what to expect and there was blood everywhere,” Registered Nurse graduate, Carolyn Dubie said.

Creating a mock disaster four Alpena Community College Registered Nurse graduates were put to the ultimate test during a nursing lab college shooting. “I thought they did a wonderful job,” Director of Nursing, Melissa Fournier said.

During the challenge each student faced critical thinking, crisis knowledge, a gunman, injuries and high and lows. During the mock disaster they had to remember key facts that they’ve learned throughout the semester. “Just taking a breath because if you’re in high anxiety then it’s not going to help anybody,” Registered Nurse graduate, Paige Chmura said.

At the end of the stressful day, all four of these Registered Nurses agreed that they would walk away with one important detail, before walking across the stage to get their nursing pins next week.”Call 911.”
