Gov. Whitmer re-elected to National Governors Association executive committee

Governor Gretchen Whitmer requests federal workers become eligible for unemployment during the government shutdown.

LANSING, Mich. – Governor Gretchen Whitmer was re-elected to the National Governors Association (NGA) Executive Committee. Founded in 1908, the NGA is the bipartisan organization of the nation’s governors.   The organization was formed to share best practices, address issues of national and state interest and share innovative solutions.

 In addition to Governor Whitmer, the following governors were elected to positions on the NGA Executive Committee: 

  • Governor Asa Hutchinson, Arkansas, Chairman; 
  • Governor Phil Murphy, New Jersey, Vice Chairman; 
  • Governor Kay Ivey, Alabama; 
  • Governor Doug Ducey, Arizona; 
  • Governor Jared Polis, Colorado; 
  • Governor Charlie Baker, Massachusetts; 
  • Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, New Mexico. 
  • Governor Andrew Cuomo, New York. 

 Governor Whitmer was also appointed by President Biden to the Council of Governors, a bipartisan group of governors that addresses matters of homeland defense, the National Guard, disaster response, and other safety and security issues. The Council consists of 10 governors appointed by the President – five from each party – with two governors serving as co-chairs. Governor Whitmer will serve a two-year term.
