Getting warmer Friday & Saturday

High temperatures today reached 40 degrees in Alpena, 42 in Saginaw and 48 in Chicago. Winds out of the west gusted up to 35 mph. Winds will settle down, and temperatures will get warmer over the next couple of days.

A few patchy flurries moved through Northern Michigan today. Most of the Upper Midwest is under dry conditions with mostly to partly clear skies. We will see some breaks of sunshine Friday and Saturday. A snowstorm affecting Nebraska, Iowa and northern Missouri will stay to our south — but in the meantime, that’s acting as the boundary between warmer and cooler temperatures, and has blocked warmth from reaching northern Michigan.

Low temperatures overnight will cool to the middle and lower 20s. Friday morning will be mostly clear with temperatures close to 30 degrees. A few more clouds are expected in the afternoon, and highs will warm to about 48 degrees. The evening will be partly cloudy with temperatures in the middle 30s.

Friday will be completely dry, and a fantastic day to spend some time outdoors. Most of Saturday is looking dry and temperatures will be warmer. A chance of showers will arrive Saturday evening and continue until early Sunday. After those showers clear, skies will dry out on Sunday although cooler temperatures will settle in. Monday will start with dry conditions, but the next chance of showers will move in late-day.
