Gallery in bloom with new featured artist
ALPENA, Mich. — July means a new featured artist at the Thunder Bay Arts Gallery.
Dorothea Sandra said she’s loved painting since she was about 7 years old. While most of her work on display in the gallery features flowers, she said she prefers a more abstract style.
As the featured artist, Sandra’s work gets its own display in the gallery’s front windows, as well as behind the desk.
Sandra says the great lakes are her most frequent source of inspiration.
“When I was a teenager, I fell in love with the great lakes. I thought it was the most beautiful area in the whole world. And I really enjoyed the people. So my inspiration comes from the great lakes and the people in Northeast Michigan.”
Sandra also donated many of her paintings to nearby hospitals over the years, hoping they can brighten patients’ moods.
