Funds for Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center

ALPENA, Mich.–Alpena will soon receive funds from the national defense authorization act.

The Biden administration passed the act for the 2022 fiscal year.
Nearly 23 million dollars will go to support infrastructure at the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center.

Colonel Jim Rossi shares how the funds will be spent.

“We’re ganna be allowed to use that money to construct a fifth generation hanger, an aircraft maintenance hanger. The men and women that come to Alpena will be able to accomplish any type of maintenance that has to be accomplished on this aircraft right here in this state of the art facility.”

Fifth generation aircraft’s don’t have many options to leave their base and train because facilities don’t always have the means to accommodate them.

The money from the NDAA will change that.

“Up hear in the northern part of Michigan, we offer an all domain training environment for our guests that are coming up here. Combine that with a state of the art hanger here on the ground with all the other opportunities for training, and we are really being recognized as a premier training location for the department of defense.”

Construction for the project will begin next year, they expect completion within a year and a half.
