Funding available for Rogers City businesses

ALPENA, Mich -In a virtual meeting held today the Rogers City Downtown Development Authority discussed available funds that will be issued by the Michigan economic development corporation to support local businesses in that area.

The Match on Main program under MEDC has allotted one million dollars in funding statewide allowing each community to apply for a maximum of fifty thousand dollars to help businesses impacted by the COVID–19 pandemic.

According to City Manager, Joe Hefele, they will be applying for the grant on behalf of anchor businesses that are considered a draw to the downtown area.

To qualify for funding, businesses must specify how COVID–19 has impacted them and what their plans are if funding is received.

The money can be used toward COVID–19 improvements such as adding take–out windows or other uses such as rent, mortgage, or payroll.

The deadline for the DDA to apply is May 29 and businesses who received funds through Target Alpena are not eligible for these dollars.

Also discussed in today’s meeting was the cancellation of the art walk scheduled for June 12 and the pirate festival on July 3rd and 4th. They are still in discussion about the Friday night concert to be held on July 3rd.
