Friends Together hosting 25 year anniversary event

ALPENA, Mich. – A local non profit is getting ready for a special celebration.

Cancer organization Friends Together is celebrating 25 years of service to the community.

The organization was established in 1996 with the purpose to help people in northeast Michigan during and after a cancer diagnosis.

The founder said it’s taken a lot of work, but she’s proud of the organization’s evolution.

“Over the 25 years we’ve evolved, we’ve grown, we’ve serviced we service six counties in northern Michigan,” said Friends Together Founder and Director Judy Burns. ” We see literally thousands of people here at friends together in our support groups, our one–on–one advocacy and our education events.”

Burns said she started friends together with only 75 dollars.

This Thursday august 12 friends Together will host an anniversary celebration.

A butterfly release and reveal of their new Garden of Hope will highlight the event.
