Friends of the Alpena Farmers Market now open Wednesdays

ALPENA, Mich. – Today’s rain didn’t stop the first Wednesday Farmers Market in Alpena.

Organizers said typically Wednesday markets begin closer towards the end of summer.

This year however, there was enough produce from local vendors to start early.

Alpena Farmers Market Manager Sandy SantaAmour said it’s an additional day to support local businesses and eat healthy.

“How much stuff did you get from the grocery store, how long has it been there, how long have you had it,” said SantaAmour. “Have you ever noticed you buy it and out it in the fridge and it doesn’t last very long. You start buying the local stuff and you know it fresh and it lasts a lot longer and you’re supporting your local farmers.”

The Friends of the Alpena Farmers Market operate every Wednesday until mid-October from a.m. until p.m.
