Free Comic Book Day makes a comeback

ALPENA, Mich. — The local comic shop had its hands full Saturday.

People were in and out the door at Bob’s Bullpen for Free Comic Book Day, when publishers offer a number of titles at no cost.

Patrons of all stripes helped themselves to titles across a broad range of genres. From “Batman,” to “Star Wars,” to down-to-earth stories like “Allergic.”

Owner Bobby Lefevre said he wanted to make sure people could discover comics through more than just caped crusaders.

Free Comic Book Day was cancelled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, free books were distributed slowly throughout the summer.

The Bullpen’s got more planned for the coming weeks, including a tournament for the video game “Super Smash Brothers.”
