Fishermen Reel in Prizes at the Norway Party Store Tournament

Reed Galer, a 2018 Alpena Community College graduate, reeled in the largest pike at 31 inches long during the Norway Party Store Tournament. (May 26,2018)

Sunday May 26th was a beautiful day for bass fishing opening day in Michigan.  The Norway Party store hosted a fishing tournament to celebrate the day. The tournament hosted 102 entries and fishermen were hoping to reel in the heaviest bass and longest pike.

Jim Skiba caught the heaviest bass weighing in at 4 pounds and 6 ounces.  Paul Corbin’s weighed 4 pounds and 4 ounces, just two ounces lighter. There are definitely some good bass out in the water in Alpena, Michigan.

The pikes were also a close contest. 19-year-old Reed Galer is your champion with a 31 inch long pike.  The Mio native is a recent graduate from Alpena Community College.  The second place pike was 30 inches long and it was brought in by Corey Ferrier.  Like most of the fishermen, Ferrier was happy to be outside enjoying the nice weather on Memorial Weekend.

Norway Party Store Owners Roland and Kathy Frey have hosted this tournament for 12 years and they love seeing people travel from all over to fish and spend time with family. That’s what the tournament is all about…bringing families together.
