Fischer, Lumberjacks take the court first time in 10 months

ALPENA, Mich. — Last week, the Alpena Community College women’s volleyball team and men’s basketball team returned to the hardwood to get their season officially underway. Monday morning, the women’s basketball team returned to the floor for the first time in over 10 months.

Going into the 2021 season, Lumberjacks head coach Bobby Allen has a lot of new faces he’s working with as seven sophomores from last year left the program. One of those sophomores was their leading scorer and rebounder Dakota Prevo. The Alpena native nearly averaged a double-double with 14 points along with nine rebounds a game. This year, Allen has three returning players. Sophomores Keagan Fischer, Lilly Black, and Mollie Girard will look to guide this team in the right direction.

Last year, the Lumberjacks finished with a 4-22 overall record. However, with a lot of young talent, Allen believes this team can make some noise in the MCAAA conference. “The girls have to put the effort into it,” said Allen. “If we get the chance to play, I think we’ll surprise a lot of people.”
