Fire Department rescues two dogs from river

ALPENA, Mich.– The City of Alpena Fire Department made a daring animal rescue Friday.

The Fire Department received a call at 2:34 Friday afternoon from passersby who saw a dog go through the ice.

They quickly arrived at the scene of the call— the river behind Wyndham Estates.

Wearing an ice–rescue suit, firefighter–paramedic Chris Morrison swam through the water to reach the dog.

Once the dog was secured, the Department used Morrison’s tether to haul them back to shore.

By 2:56, the dog was on its way to Schweitzer Veterinary Clinic to receive treatment for hypothermia.

The department also rescued a second dog who hadn’t fallen through the ice.
