Fire commission seeking bids for township fire dept. audit

A motion  passed at Wednesday’s Alpena Township Board of Trustees meeting that would allow the fire commission to seek bids to audit the Alpena Township Fire Department.

The department has multiple revenue streams that’s poured into a general fund, and whatever expenses the fire department have, money gets taken out of that fund. The commission wants to measure the expenses and revenue of the department.

However, tensions rose as treasurer Laura Ellery-Somers and clerk Karie Bleau worked to knock down trustees Norm Poli and Nathan Thomson’s recommendation as pointless.

“I have offered numerous times to share all of the financial information relative to the fire department,” said Bleau.

Supervisor Nathan Skibbe said there’s no harm in the fire commission seeking bids. He said it’ll come at zero cost to the board.
