Financial experts say the stock market doesn’t win or lose on Election Day

ALPENA, Mich. — Early voting started Thursday, Sept. 24 in Michigan as clerks began mailing out absentee ballots.  Regardless of the outcome in the 2020 presidential election, financial experts caution that the stock market does not win or lose on Election Day.  Edward Jones financial advisors say elections matter, but historically markets have performed well under a wide variety of election outcomes.

“Whether it’s been a Republican or Democrat in office, the market has done well both ways,” said Edward Jones Financial Advisor Pam Kirchoff.   “We do expect volatility, but that’s an absolutely normal part of the market cycle.  Typically in an election cycle, the markets tend to do well,” said Kirchoff.
