Family Fishing Derby all smiles on Long Lake

A group of kids come in from fishing in the 28th Annual Family Fishing Derby on Long Lake Saturday.

Long Lake — Friends and families gathered at the Dodge Marine and Storage on Saturday for the 28th Annual Family Fishing Derby.

The Long Lake Improvement Association hosts this fun fishing tournament. The event offered everything one would want on a summer day. Folks could win raffle prizes, enjoy burgers and hot dogs, and catch fish for cash prizes.

The adult division could catch four different types of species of fish to try and win the cash (Perch, Pike, Walleye, & Bass). The youth division had the opportunity to catch five different types of fish (Bluegill, Perch, Pike, Walleye, & Bass). For Long Lake Improvement Association President Tom Ludwig, it’s always a treat to see a kid come in with a fish.

“He [or she] is proud as a peacock and we also give them a ticket, each kid that brings in a fish gets a ticket for a drawing for a free bike,” said Ludwig.

The proceeds from the event benefit a multitude of activities and housekeeping for the gigantic lake. Around 100 people showed up for good conversation and fun with the family.

“We love the lake and I’ve got a super crew that work at keeping it in good shape,” said Ludwig. “We monitor the damn, we regulate the damn, we plant fish, we support the lights festival each year, and we just have a real good time.”
