Families to receive packages at area school

ALPENA, Mich.— All hands on deck were needed at Oscoda High School this afternoon as families picked up much needed supplies for their children. Since Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed the executive order to close schools for the remainder of the year, Oscoda Area Schools are providing two forms of learning packages … paper copies and digital.

School staff not only handed out learning packages, but also laptops, student locker contents and food items. Families received five breakfast and lunch meals with packages containing entrees such as pizza, veggies and milk.

Students also have the option for three meals on the weekend provided through the Community Backpack Program. An extensive summer school program will be provided to students this year and a decision whether or not the school will hold graduation for seniors has not yet been determined.

Superintendent Moore says, “He wants the community to know they have resources available to students and they will continue to do everything possible to progress students forward.”

If families were not able to come to the school today, staff will give out learning packages and food items Friday morning.

Families are encouraged to contact Oscoda Area Schools at 989-739-9173 or by email at hamiltons@oscodaschools.org for food packages.
