Faith Outreach hosts “Free At Last” Presentation For Smokers

Earlier today, the Faith Outreach Program hosted their “Free At Last” presentation, seeking to warn many of the dangers of smoking. The presentation was hosted at the Alpena Public Library. Both smokers and non-smokers were in attendance to witness real life stories about the dangers of smoking, and offer support to those struggling with the addiction.

“Just the people being there for me- none of those people smoke- and just telling me that I can, and that I’m strong enough to do it,” said Tracy Woods, Faith Outreach Member. “ I’m stronger than nicotine and I’m not going to let nicotine rule me.”

The presentation featured a guest speaker who overcame the habit of smoking, and a touching story from the director of the program as she talked about a friend who joined the program a little too late.

“She stopped too, but it was too late. She was fed through a tube. She lasted four years, but was miserable,” said Pauline Filakowski, Faith Outreach Director. “So I feel her presence here for some reason because she really wanted this program so hopefully we can help somebody else today.”
