Fairview Breaks Ground on New Fire Hall

This afternoon, Fairview residents gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off the building of a new fire hall.

Almost a year ago, Comins Township voters approved a millage for the building of a new $850,000 fire hall, fully equipped with 24-hour EMS services. Now that bids have been accepted, the project can officially begin. An additional fire hall was necessary because the remoteness of the area was causing extremely long wait times for emergency services.

“Our county is so spread out that it takes about 20–30 minutes to get to each corner of the county. So having one on each end of the county will be a big difference,” says Oscoda County EMS Director Susan White.

Although the project is on the pricey side, township supervisor Warren Miller says there was an overwhelming amount of support for it.

“It’s very gratifying that the board was in favor of this, but even more so the community. We had a millage vote last August, and the community very overwhelmingly voted in favor to support a new fire hall,”he says.

In regards to breaking ground on the project today, Miller says its been a long time coming, and he’s excited to be one step closer to making the new fire hall a reality. He estimates the building should be up and running as early as November of this year.
