Exchange Club of Alpena names scholarship winner
ALPENA, Mich. — The Exchange Club of Alpena recently awarded the “Accepting the Challenge of Excellence” (A.C.E.) scholarship of $1,000 to Alexandra Lino.
The Accepting the Challenge of Excellence Award recognizes a high school senior who has overcome great physical, emotional or social obstacles and is now eligible for high school graduation. Lino submitted an essay describing personal and family obstacles she went through and how she overcame those challenges. During a recent move to Alpena, Lino discovered the love for the theater and landed a dream role in a musical which moved her to a better place in her life.
Her passion for art, theater, and dancing is the driving force to her dream of opening a sanctuary for artists. She will be attending Alpena Community College to pursue a degree in business and marketing with the goal of starting the sanctuary for artists. “This is a calling for me and I am tremendously passionate about this business,” said Lino. “I can change the world one person at a time and it starts with my consistency of never giving up.”
“We were very moved by Alexandra’s story, her dedication to graduate from high school and continuing her education at Alpena Community College,” said Tony Suszek, chair, A.C.E. Scholarship Committee.
Lino’s application makes her eligible for an addition $1,000 scholarship from the State of Michigan Exchange Club Accepting the Challenge of Excellence award.
