Embezzlement Case Against Iosco County Treasurer Dismissed

An embezzlement case against the Iosco County Deputy Treasurer was dismissed by a judge on Wednesday.

Iosco County Judge Allen Yenior dismissed a criminal case filed by Iosco County Prosecutor Nichol Palumbo against long–time county employee Cathy Anderson.

The criminal case charged Anderson with a 10-year felony for embezzlement by a public official of more than 50 dollars. Judge Yenior issued a six page dismissal of the case on Wednesday.

We had a chance to speak with Ms. Anderson’s attorney Mike Nichols who said the case should not have seen the light of day, and that the prosecutor Nichol Palumbo, put his client “through hell in order to gain publicity for her judicial campaign.

“The facts did not support a violation of the law, and the judge’s opinion was very clear. It was a repudiation of the judgment used by the prosecutor and what i mean by that is, this was a move for publicity. For someone running for higher office, and it backfired,” said Nichols

About the dismissal Anderson says she feels vindicated of criminal wrongdoing, but this has been hard, “it was hard to work in the office with the stress and tension, I am planning my next steps.”
