Dry weather remains through Thursday; Warming up this weekend

High temperatures today reached 27 degrees in Alpena. The coldest period of this week is this evening and into early Thursday. The colder temperatures to our west, over Minnesota, will be transient and move quickly through Michigan.

Low temperatures overnight will cool to about 20 degrees. Mostly cloudy skies will continue tomorrow and winds will be very light or nearly calm at times. Afternoon highs will reach about 31 degrees, and evening temperatures will be near 26 degrees.

Daily high temperatures will trend upward through the weekend. By Saturday, a high of 36 degrees is expected. Moisture moving in will start as scattered flurries on Friday, then mix with rain showers during the middle of Saturday. Drier and warm conditions with highs near 40 degrees are forecast for Groundhog Day on Sunday. A sharply colder pattern will move in around Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

Mostly cloudy skies are forecast for Thursday with highs in the lower 30s. Temperatures will cool to about 20 degrees for the low early Friday. A few scattered flurries are possible Friday with only a light dusting. Scattered snow or rain showers will move through Northeast Michigan on Saturday.
