District Health Department No. 4 reports first positive COVID-19 case in Alpena, County

ALPENA, Mich. — District Health Department No 4 (DHD4) is reporting the first positive case for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from a resident of Alpena County.  The Health Department has been quickly working with the individual, an adult female in
isolation and recuperating at a residence, to identify and contact anyone potentially exposed
and will monitor them for symptoms.

“We cannot over-emphasize the importance of compliance with the Stay Home, Stay Safe order,”
remarked Denise Bryan, Health Officer at DHD4. “We want to stress that this is an order, not a
suggestion, aimed at protecting the public’s health. The rise in cases and likely ongoing community spread in our area reminds us it is imperative that we follow this order and NOT leave home. Essential businesses should be screening their employees and implementing social distancing measures.”

Residents are asked to take the appropriate precautions and follow health and safety guidelines including:

• Stay at home. Do not leave home except for essential tasks such as getting groceries or seeking
medical care.
• If you must go out, stay at least 6 feet away from others and avoid any gatherings. If you do go out,
please wear a face covering. A face covering is any well-secured cloth (like a bandana or scarf) that covers your mouth and nose.
• Wash your hands frequently for at least twenty seconds.
• Avoid touching your face.
• Disinfect commonly touched surfaces.
• Check on others. Call your loved ones and neighbors who are most at risk and see how they are doing.  If they require something essential, see how you can help.
