Dinosaur Gardens vandalized one month before opening

OSSINEKE, Mich. — Broken glass and kicked in doors– that was how owner Gary Stephan found Ossineke’s Dinosaur Gardens last week.

“We’re pretty upset,” Stephan said. “We put a lot of work into this place and we’re really proud of what we’ve done here.”

Vandals smashed windows and an oven, leaving glass in the cabin by the T-Rex. On the mini-golf course, the bridge was destroyed, and the ball return on the 18th hole among other things.

And the Ossineke Chamber of Commerce pavilion across the street also saw destruction. Windows in the news bathrooms were smashed, shed doors had been kicked in and the vandals spilled paint inside of one of the sheds.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to conviction of the suspects. Crime Stoppers can be reached at 1-800-422-JAIL.

Deputy Michael Lash of the Alpena County Sheriff’s Department is investigating, too, and can be contacted at 989-354-9855.

Ossineke also has a community watch program called LOCK- which stands for Local Ossineke Citizens Kare. Information can be shared with them over Facebook, as well.
