Difference between Flu and COVID-19 vaccination clinics

ALPENA, Mich. —  Flu versus COVID–19 vaccines have many confused but District Health Department No.4 wants to help the community understand the difference between the two.

According to DHD4 Health Officer Denise Bryan, there are different requirements for protection of staff, volunteers and others receiving the vaccine.  The key difference with flu vaccine clinics is they receive a large quantity of vaccine at one time, walk–ins are welcome and clinic dates and locations are publicized.  Additionally, only one dose is needed per client.

The vaccine for COVID–19 clinics are ordered and received on a weekly basis and the amount received is unknown ahead of time.  Appointments are scheduled once the clinic knows the exact amount of doses received for the week and unlike flu clinics, they do not honor walk–ins.

To complete the full COVID–19 vaccination process, every client must receive two doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
