ALPENA, Mich. — District Health Department Number 4 said they’ve continued to receive reports of Delta variant cases from the Michigan DHHS.
In just the past week, Alpena reported 50 new COVID-19 cases. That’s over 50% of the 80 overall cases in the DHD4 region.
The department’s Medical Director, Joshua Meyerson, said he thinks the Delta variant is “spreading quickly in Alpena and surrounding areas, and is the predominant strain.”
Meyerson re-emphasized the importance of masking up and getting vaccinated.
Within DHD4’s jurisdiction, Alpena County and Montmorency Counties have a high level of transmission. Cheboygan’s is moderate, and Presque Isle’s is substantial.
