Detroit Police Chief James Craig retiring June 1

DETROIT, Mich. — Detroit Police Chief James Craig said he will retire June 1.  Reports surfaced over the weekend that Chief Craig was stepping down and possibly considering a run for governor.

At a press conference Monday, May 10, Chief Craig, a Republican, said he had not made a decision but was not ruling out the possibility of a political run either. Craig has served as the Detroit Chief of Police for the past eight years.

The native Detroiter has served 44 years in law enforcement.  Chief Craig has worked for departments in Los Angeles, Portland, Maine and Cincinnati, Ohio.
