Demolition in Alpena neighborhood
ALPENA, Mich. — Demolition has begun and is almost complete on a structure fire that happened back in May of 2020. The fire broke out at a home on the corner of Washington and Lewis street.
Because of a working smoke alarm, the four people inside made it out safely but damage to the home was so severe that city officials deemed it unsalvageable.
Dity Engineer Rich Sullenger said demolition began on Monday and should be completed by the end of the week.
At this time it is not known if a new home will replace the old one.
