ALPENA, Mich. –
This past weekend was wonderful to be out on the canoe for the C-1 and C-2 Curley Memorial Canoe Race. The race was held in memory of Harry Curley for his dedication to the sport. The event leads up to the big AuSable River Canoe Marathon Race that is held July 27th at 9 pm in Grayling.
Paddlers had to race two laps from the Children’s Park to a buoy that was just downstream of the Railroad Tresle Bridge. Even though it was a georgeous weekend out on the water, it was a little rough on the AuSable River.
“When the water is shallower, it sucks the boat down a little more,” said Mike Davis. ” It was easier going upstream than it was downstream.”
