Damp and chilly Thursday; Drier and warmer Friday

An area of low pressure that has been causing showery weather over the Great Lakes region for most of the week is finally beginning to progress slowly off to the east. On the back side of this storm system, a chilly breeze coming out of the northwest is bringing temperatures several degrees below normal for mid-April. It’s gotten cold enough to see some snow over interior parts of northern Michigan, away from the shorelines. High pressure north of the North Dakota-Canada border will eventually bring some sunshine on Saturday.

High temperatures today were largely in the lower to middle 40s across Northern Michigan. The normal high for April 14 is in the lower 50s. Below-normal temperatures will continue Thursday.

Chilly temperatures remain in the forecast for Thursday with afternoon highs in the middle 40s. Friday, temperatures will climb to around 50 degrees or the lower 50s. Temperatures will continue getting warmer over the weekend with highs in the middle to upper 50s.

Thursday: Scattered showers (mixed precipitation possible in the morning and evening). Early-morning lows will drop to about 32 degrees. Afternoon highs will be near 44 degrees. Evening temperatures will go into the upper 30s.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, drier. Early-morning temperatures will begin near 35 degrees. By midday, temperatures will rise to the middle/upper 40s. Highs will reach about 51 degrees in the late-afternoon. Evening temperatures will head into the 40s.

Saturday: Partly cloudy, finally some sunshine. Early-morning lows will be close to 35 degrees. Temperatures will climb to the lower/middle 40s during the late-morning. Afternoon highs will get up to around 56 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool to the 40s.
