ALPENA, Mich.— The Senior Services Council spoke at the Alpena County Board of Commissioners’ meeting this week to discuss an extension of the senior center lease. If extended, the lease will add an additional ten years for senior residents to use the building.
The extension will also aid with grants used to continue services offered to senior citizens. The senior center distributes six thousand meals a month and offers transportation to medical appointments to all senior members.
Seniors also have access to an exercise program and map classes for medicare information. The Board of Commissioners did not make a final decision Monday to extend the lease, and will reconvene next month.
The Senior Service Souncil plans to stay in the same building and provide services long term.
