Cooler temperatures to arrive Thursday with north breeze

Notice cooler temperatures just north of our area, high temperatures today reached 45 degrees in Alpena and Traverse City, Michigan, while Marquette had a high of only 31 degrees. A weak cold front is passing by with very little rain/snow showers so many places will stay dry. Colder temperatures are on the way tonight and into Thursday.

Winds Thursday will be light, around 10 mph. Going into Friday, winds out of the northwest will increase. Friday, winds will pick up to about 15-20 mph, out of the northwest. That’s still going to keep the temperatures cool, especially in the morning.

Thursday: Starts cloudy in the early-morning, then decreasing clouds will give way to some afternoon sunshine, cool. Predawn temperatures will begin around 18 degrees. Afternoon highs will get up to around 28 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool from the lower 20s to the upper teens.

Friday: Bright skies, breezy with a cool morning. Predawn temperatures will drop to about 13 degrees. Temperatures will rise to the middle 20s during the late-morning. Afternoon highs will reach close to 33 degrees. Evening temperatures will be in the middle to lower 20s.

Saturday: Mostly sunny. Predawn temperatures will cool to around 14 degrees. Afternoon highs will be near 33 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool from the middle 20s to near 20 degrees.

Once we get beyond the weekend, significantly warmer temperatures are likely. The Climate Prediction Center is showing a high chance of above-normal temperatures during the period of March 8-12. Temperatures will reach highs in the 40s or above during that time period. But it’s going to be a few days until we get temperatures that warm.
