Cooler and drier Thursday; Rainy Friday

High temperatures today reached the lower 70s for most of Northeast Michigan. Cloudy skies and showers diminished which gave way to some late-day sunshine. Winds have been coming from the west-southwest, sustained at 15 mph and gusting to 25 mph. That wind direction does not bring a cooling influence off of Lake Huron, so it helped temperatures get warmer than normal for both inland and shoreline locations today. Afternoon highs warmed to 73 degrees in Alpena and Rogers City, 71 degrees in Atlanta, and 75 degrees in Oscoda.

Showers over Iowa and South Dakota will travel toward the southeast, while scattered showers over northern Minnesota and Wisconsin will diminish. Mainly cloudy skies are expected tonight and tomorrow morning, then cloud cover will partially decrease midday tomorrow. The next storm system, still in the Pacific Ocean, will travel across the Upper Plains and reach our area on Friday.

Low temperatures will cool to about 50 degrees in the early-morning. Partly cloudy skies are expected tomorrow afternoon with highs close to 63 degrees. Winds will be less blustery, about 10-15 mph out of the west.

Enjoy the brighter weather on Thursday although temperatures will get noticeably cooler. Rain will move in Friday midday-early afternoon and last into Friday night. High temperatures will reach the middle 60s. Drier weather is expected Saturday and highs will only get to the lower 60s. It will feel crisp early Sunday as low temperatures bottom out in the lower 40s.
