ALPENA, Mich.—What once was a safe haven turned into a homeowner’s worse nightmare. Kathryn Kamyszek a native of Alpena woke up to smoke alarms ringing out on Memorial Day weekend.
Kamyszek and her children were all in the home when the fire started, but no injuries were reported. Their cat perished in the fire as well as many family memories.
Kamyszek and her children are still in Alpena hoping to find a new place to call home. The local Agent Orange Riders and the Alpena Marine Corp League are collecting bottles, cans and pennies this week to raise funds for the family.
Residents can drop off items at the Eagles Club in Alpena located on M–32 West. Donations will be accepted up until this coming Friday from 1 to 6pm.
