Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan excited for a big Giving Tuesday

Alpena — Tomorrow is one of the biggest days of the year for nonprofits.
It’s Giving Tuesday, the universal movement to donate to causes or organizations. The newer holiday is celebrated the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Funds raised can make the difference in helping these organizations achieve their financial goals for a project, movement, or event.
The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan specializes in managing campaigns for nonprofits This year, they are expecting a major turnout from donors. The organization has 60 nonprofits that will have campaigns up for donations.
Their team has been busy at work, preparing for the big day since August. Nonprofit organizations have to apply to participate by September. In October, they find out if they are able to get funding through giving Tuesday.
The early prep work has Marketing and Communications Director Christine Hitch at ease ahead of the week’s festivities.
“We’ve been organized enough that today is kind of the calm before everything happens tomorrow, so we are just doing some last minute connecting with our organizations and getting our offices ready to welcome everyone here towards the end of the week when we announce the final totals and just planning for how things are going to go as smooth as we can make it tomorrow, ” said Hitch.
The countdown is already underway on the Community Foundation’s website. Once the donation page goes live, donors will have 24 hours to click on an organization to donate. Around this time hitch puts together a major marketing campaign to reach the 9 counties they cover. It’s on the non profits as well to advertise their campaign.
Last year was a record year, so Hitch and her team are excited to watch the donations come in.
“Seeing how charitable Northeast Michigan and the people who really care about it are, I mean that comes out in such a huge way on Giving Tuesday,” said Hitch.
