ALPENA – Alpena County commissioners are working with Northern Lights Arena to help them get back on their feet as they work to pay operational fees.
County commissioners will extend the arena’s contract until the end of year to give Northern Lights more time to tie loose ends.
The board agreed this week to waive the arena’s insurance bill. User fees, events and rentals help keep the doors of the facility open. That doesn’t include $60,000 payments to the county each year.
Closing the facility would cost more than the amount to keep it running.
