Coldest air of the season so far arrives Monday night to early Tuesday

Highs today reached 30 degrees in Alpena, 23 degrees in Houghton, Michigan and 8 degrees in Duluth, Minnesota. That coldest temperatures of the season so far arrive overnight lasting through early Tuesday. Tuesday will overall be a chilly day, definitely need to bundle up for any length of time outdoors.

Overnight lows will drop to about 12 degrees in Alpena, 10 degrees in Mio and 15 degrees in Oscoda. The last time temperatures got this cold happened in March!

Lake effect snow showers are diminishing this evening. A chilly area of high pressure currently over northern Minnesota moves closer to Northern Michigan, bringing more stable weather for Tuesday. Tuesday is looking mostly cloudy and drier with significantly lower chances of any snow showers.

Tuesday: Frigid morning! Predawn lows will be near 12 degrees. Late-morning temperatures will get close to 20 degrees. Highs will reach (only) about 25 degrees — so it will continue feeling quite cold through the afternoon. Evening temperatures will be around 20 degrees.

Wednesday: A chance of flurries, amounts look minimal. Early-morning temperatures will begin in the upper teens. Temperatures will rise to the upper 20s in the late-morning. Afternoon highs will be close to 30 degrees. Evening temperatures will go into the middle 20s.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy, a little milder. Early-morning temperatures will be in the lower 20s. Late-morning temperatures will climb to the upper 20s. Afternoon highs will be near 32 degrees. Evening temperatures will dip to the middle 20s.
