Cold temperatures remain through midweek

A cold front moved through Northeast Michigan around midday, and since then colder temperatures are now moving into our area. The cold front brought a few rain showers, but those ended pretty quickly. We will be seeing mostly cloudy skies with cold temperatures over the next couple of days. Some pockets of lake effect snow have already developed and will continue to come off of Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, mainly staying west of M-33. Montmorency and Oscoda counties have a small chance of seeing a few unsubstantial flurries early Tuesday.

Temperatures east of the cold front warmed to the 60s. Highs reached 60 degrees in Buffalo, New York and 65 degrees Indianapolis. Meanwhile, the high got up to 48 degrees in Alpena and 36 degrees in Duluth, Minnesota as colder air is moving in behind the cold front. Locally, temperatures will feel chilly through Wednesday.

High temperatures will get up to only 40 degrees Tuesday afternoon, that’s running about 15 degrees below normal. Wednesday will begin with very chilly temperatures and remain cool throughout the rest of the day. Thursday, temperatures will rise to about 50 degrees as winds shift out of the west and lose influence of cold air from the north. Temperatures will get even warmer Friday with highs in the lower 60s.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, breezy. Early-morning lows will head down to about 27 degrees. Afternoon highs will be near 40 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool from the upper 30s to near 30 degrees.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, cold early. Predawn lows will drop to around 23 degrees. Afternoon highs will be close to 40 degrees. Evening temperatures will go into the 30s.

Thursday: Brighter and getting warmer. Early-morning temperatures will begin near 25 degrees. Temperatures will rise to the upper 30s in the late-morning. Afternoon highs will get up to around 50 degrees. Evening temperatures will be mainly in the 40s.
